These are all such fantastic ideas!! I just hosted a springtime plant swap and was able to meet many of my neighbors. We enjoyed it so much that we will be doing another in June.
I have been to that intersection in Portland- it’s actually in the St. John’s area. About 20 years ago a group of friends and I were on an evening bike ride and we came across it. We were all enthralled. There is a tiny kiosk with tea and a lovely swing-bench to sit on and enjoy it. It’s also the first place I ever saw a tiny community library. I believe it is an “intentional community” and has always been a benchmark for what I consider a fantastic neighborhood.

Sorry... for some reason I typed “St Johns” and I meant Sellwood- completely opposite ends of town.

These are all wonderful suggestions. Our neighborhood in Athens, Georgia includes several of these collective projects as well as several individual ones. In addition to monthly neighborhood potlucks which are hosted among a rotating 6-7 homes, we have movie nights from April - October. Portable large screen, projector and PA system, an old-fashioned theatre-style popcorn maker, and a stack of chairs are shared. Location rotates through the neighborhood (side-yards / back yards, and outdoor patio at a neighborhood restaurant) and movies are typically chosen by the host. At our home, we put the vegetable and herb garden in the front yard and encourage neighbors to enjoy the bounty. Neighborhood bird watching is also shared interest among several of us, particularly during migration season.
