3D Kitchen Designs Celebrate Disney Magic
The Houzz Pro 3D Floor Planner dreams up kitchens inspired by ‘The Little Mermaid,’ ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Toy Story’
Disney’s The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Toy Story are celebrating major anniversaries this year and next. To mark the occasions, Houzz channeled the spirit of each classic animated film with designs for an open-concept kitchen and dining area, plus an adjoining foyer and walk-in pantry, all created with the Houzz Pro 3D Floor Planner — a tool available to Houzz Pro subscribers.
“Creating these spaces was like bringing a cherished childhood memory to life,” Houzz designer Madison Holmlund says. “Every detail, from the color palette to the furniture, was chosen to reflect the timeless charm of a few of Disney’s most celebrated films, while the Houzz Pro 3D Floor Planner made it easy to create three distinct designs for the same great room.”

2. ‘The Lion King’
Designers can say, “Hakuna matata! No worries!” when a homeowner wants to see different ideas for the same kitchen, thanks to the 3D Floor Planner. They merely need to duplicate a plan’s basic layout and then choose new products, materials and finishes from the software’s huge built-in selection. This organic modern-style kitchen and dining space, for example, share an overall layout with Ariel and Eric’s kitchen, but the colors, finishes and accents echo the earthy tones and natural textures of Simba’s kingdom in the 1994 film The Lion King.
“In designing the Lion King floor plan, I wanted to pull in texture and color reminiscent of an African safari while keeping the overall feel luxurious and upscale,” Holmlund says. “Warm woods, brushed brass and oil-rubbed bronze appliances and fixtures, woven banana fiber dining chairs and a lively green cabinet color (Benjamin Moore’s Kennebunkport Green) come together to create an earthy, inviting space.”
The countertops are cream-colored natural stone, the dining room walls are covered in zebra-like Black Deco Fountain wallpaper, and the floors are custom white oak 3-inch-wide planks. An oversize hammered-metal range hood in a warm coppery tone is a standout feature in the kitchen, much like Pride Rock towers over Pride Lands in the animated film. Note that many of the products used in these floor plans are available in the Houzz Shop.
Choose the Dollhouse or Walkthrough view in the floor plan, then use the Pan, Move and Rotate tools to visit the bright and airy foyer and the walk-in pantry. The latter features palm wallpaper and an ode to Mufasa at its entrance.

3. ‘Toy Story’
A third version of the same open-plan kitchen and dining room captures the whimsy and playfulness of a Disney classic celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025: Toy Story.
The perimeter cabinetry is painted in Benjamin Moore’s bold Patriot Blue and topped with a cream marble counter with gold veining. The contrasting island base and range hood are white oak, and the flooring is 5-inch-wide laminate planks in Coffee Hackberry. The woods’ rusticity nods to Woody’s cowboy roots, as do the Western prints in the dining area and walk-in pantry. A credenza in the dining area offers plenty of toy storage, and beneath the glass-topped table, a round rug calls to mind Woody’s horse, Bullseye. Click on the Dollhouse view in the floor plan to spin around in the dining area and see a cozy reading nook with Woody’s cowboy hat hanging on the wall.
Buzz Lightyear’s influence is evident in the design as well. “I just love the sparkle the brass star sconces bring to the dining area,” Holmlund says. “I also like that they’re a subtle nod to Buzz and the iconic line ‘To infinity and beyond!’ from the movies.”
Speaking of unlimited possibilities, these Disney-inspired kitchens were created from scratch. But if you’re renovating an existing space, you can use the Houzz Pro app on your phone or tablet to scan the room and create a virtual model as a starting point for the new design. You then can adjust floor plans, share ideas and select products within the software.
What’s more, 3D floor plans connect with other tools in Houzz Pro, such as Mood Boards and Selections, and can be used as a launchpad for takeoffs, estimates and proposals.

If The Little Mermaid’s Ariel and Prince Eric hired a designer to create their “happily ever after” dream home, it might include an open-plan kitchen and dining room like the one pictured here. The cooking area’s three walls of cabinetry and island offer plenty of prep surface and storage space for “dinglehoppers” (aka forks).
Drawing color and thematic inspiration from the 1989 film, Holmlund washed the room in soft and serene coastal style. She selected a watery gray paint color with blue-green undertones (Benjamin Moore’s Sea Star) for the kitchen cabinetry and paired it with a lighter blue-green-gray on the walls (Benjamin Moore’s Smoke) and a coordinating stacked subway tile backsplash. A cream marble countertop with gold veining, a round white pedestal table and creamy white draperies and counter stools resemble the color of sea foam. White oak 6-inch-wide plank flooring, a circular braided seagrass rug, rattan dining chairs and a wicker pendant lamp in the dining area add beachy texture and tones. And brushed brass hardware and other golden accents are reminiscent of sunshine glittering on the waves. Holmlund’s favorite element of the space, though, is the Moonlight Pearls wallpaper in the dining room. “It truly does make me feel like I’m in a luxurious underwater fantasy world,” she says.
To see the floor plan in both 2D and 3D, click the link. Then you can use the Pan, Rotate and Zoom tools in the Dollhouse and life-size Walkthrough views to get an overview of the space as well as an up-close look at its textures, colors and materials. This photorealistic image, like the other two in this story, was created by taking a “snapshot” while in Walkthrough mode.
Clicking around the plan’s Dollhouse and Walkthrough views offers a sense of how the Room Planner tool helps design and remodeling professionals and their clients visualize the layout and flow between rooms — and even to outdoor spaces. In all of these projects, for example, you’ll be able to see more of the dining rooms and visit the adjoining foyers and walk-in pantries, each of which is decorated with coordinating finishes and accents. Keep an eye out for a mermaid painting while exploring this particular space.
