Discover the products and ideas elevating al fresco spaces, as seen at the recent Maison & Objet trade fair
While the Maison & Objet design fair in Paris typically signals the direction of the interiors world, this year’s January installment also highlighted the growing importance of the outdoors. As our homes become year-round hubs for entertaining, al fresco spaces now need as much design attention as our interiors, serving as sociable and welcoming extensions of the home.
Despite the cool temperatures outside the halls, the show’s Outdoor Universe featured 50 international brands showcasing the hottest looks in everything from furniture and lighting to materials and accessories. These are the key trends that caught our attention.

A trend spotted at many recent trade fairs, movable and rechargeable lighting has become a practical staple for outdoor setups.
Many brands displayed flexible lighting solutions, including Cinna’s Lambda table lamp in orange — a petite offering designed by Sebastian Herkner. The lamp is made from UV-resistant lacquered aluminum in a timeless shape that suits a range of styles, with a touch-sensitive dimmer tucked discreetly underneath.

Swiing portable lamp, Fermob
Fermob also emphasized lighting in its collections, including the Swiing lamp designed by Tristan Lohner and the Ulli lamp.
The Swiing has a feminine, playful silhouette inspired by high-paced dancing and offers a soft, ambient glow thanks to a chiseled polycarbonate diffuser and opal glass-like finish. It’s the first in the brand’s range to feature an integrated tilt switch, so a tilt to either side turns the bulb on or off.

5. Stylish Shading
Functional, yes, but parasols are also the jewelry of an outdoor space. The design should be highly considered and, ideally, add an element of fun or surprise to a scheme.
This sentiment was shared by many brands at the show. Courant Sauvage displayed tassled, colorful styles to coordinate with the brand’s sun loungers, while Business & Pleasure showcased classic striped offerings. Gescova’s newest collection of luxury neutral-toned umbrellas adds a touch of elegance to the outdoors.
Tuuci’s MAX Bolero Ombré Blossom features hundreds of hand-tufted, outdoor-rated blossom appliqués. These details add texture, visual impact and a wow factor to a patio or terrace.

1. Rusty Hues
A warm palette of oranges, reds, terra cottas and ambers dominated this edition of Maison & Objet, reflecting the favored color schemes for interiors. This warmth paired naturally with another key trend: powder-coated metal outdoor furniture. While many brands showed designs in this material, they softened it through a choice of rich tones and curved, flowing shapes that encourage relaxation.
Vondom, for instance, focused on forms that invite you to sit, converse or linger in tones reminiscent of the Mediterranean at dusk. Its Mel collection, designed by Ramón Esteve, stood out for its soft volumes and warm color palette. The seating is made using rotational molding to create single fluid shapes without visible seams. The brand also highlighted the importance of upholstery in making outdoor furniture welcoming.
