I had a great contractor and I think this article is spot on! So many times he went out of his way to advise and/or assist with whatever needed to be done. While I have many wonderful stories to go with adding on a bigger kitchen, bathrooom, laundry and porch, my favorite moment is when the sod was delivered the day before my daughter's wedding and he helped lay it in the backyard. We stopped for a beer on the new porch when it started to rain....ahhhh, such memories!

The 5 PM on Friday thing...our contractor will text us at any time of the day, any day of the week, with ideas, questions, and occasional pictures of progress, and we feel free to do likewise. Came in really handy when an exterior pipe froze and burst, and we were 3 hours away on a business trip. Neighbor saw it, texted a picture; we texted the contractor and asked if he could shut off the valve. He was there in 30 minutes, shut off the valve, and cleaned up the mess. And that's why he's also doing our barn-garage "bar-rage" entertainment space project.
I love working with small town contractors.
