"bed linens and towels come in standard sizes and rarely need to be purchased at full price. Keep an eye out for sales, nabbing basics whenever you can". This does not mean that you have to buy the cheapest things out there, only that you can buy them on sale. White sales at the beginning of the year are a great time to get the quality you want, at a fraction of the MSRP.

Kitchen Magic

There are many ways to SAVE on a kitchen remodel and there are many ways to SPEND!

When you layout out the budget, the counter top is a good place to 'spend'. That's the work horse of the kitchen. Taking on life's messes and the hard work that goes on in the kitchen. Quartz is a great material for the counter top. Most of the quartz brands are the same and all maintenance free.

Hundreds of color choices. Considering a lighter color will cut down on fingerprints and the evidence of streaks. We love Cambria though. It comes with a lifetime of homeownership warranty so you're covered if anything does happen. It's fairly indestructible, so consider when remodeling the kitchen.

Now that' you've decided on stone for the countertops, lets find you a cost efficiency on the cabinets.

Saving on the cabinets is simple. Your choices, for the most part include, wood or laminate. We love maintenance free laminates with hundreds of style and color combinations. The ever popular white choice is here to stay.

Choosing to reface some and replace some and you can incur a cost savings. If the layout is staying the same, this where you can save on the budget. Typically the cabinet under the sink and the cabinets above the stove take the most of a beating over the years.

Now that you've spent and saved. Lets talk about the balance of the kitchen. You are now ready to choose your details. Crown molding is an ideal addition. Immediately enhancing the design with a sophisticated, yet subtle upgrade to the look of the kitchen.

Storage is a good place to upgrade too, making the kitchen more functional. This is also a small investment and most companies will discount them when choosing more than one. Lazy susans, roll out trash bins and roll out shelves are highly popular.

The flooring is a place to save or spend too. It's your choice. Hard wood, tile or laminate are basically your 3 choices. Hard wood will eat up your budget, but tile can save, depending on your choice. Classic 12x12's come in many choices, high end and low end. The wood plank looks in tile are ideal. And yes, they actually look like wood.

Here is an example of a refaced kitchen with new stone countertops. The homeowner splurged on the countertops and backsplash, deciding that refacing was a viable solution.
