Be sure to ask you AC person how much clearance to leave between your AC and any structures or plants. Mine said at least 3 feet all around for both ventilation and access.

I recommend removable panels if you go with a fence/structure for easy cleaning.

I found a simple, inexpensive solution which works as a vertical herb and pepper garden. It is easy to move for AC servicing and allows plenty of air circulation for the unit.
