Love, love, love porch swings. A wonderful spot to "think" and relax. We live in SE Texas which is home to high heat, high humidity and lots of bugs and snakes so swing time happens in the cooler months of the year when the weather is not so hot and there are fewer bugs. Our swing is situated on a pergola and looks out over the backyard. For less maintenance, ours is made from polywood which is recycled plastic. All I have to do is hose it down occasionally and it looks great! And, as a bonus it has drink holders on each side! It's very comfortable which is a good thing as we don't use pillows due to the bugs and snakes. Nothing like jumping out of a chair or swing when you feel something moving behind or underneath you!

suburban guy-THANK YOU! Being a DIY'er and just having restored a 1933 Sears kit home... now comes the "non-essentials", one being a porch swing. I have 2x6" and always thought they would not hold a swing/ people. Your information is invaluable and thorough and appreciated!
