Sigrid, regarding your question about #4 and the protea, I believe the plants you’re referring to are the Leucospermum (pincushion plant.) You can see the similarities in the leaves. I tried growing them by the beach, my neighbor’s water with her rose food flowed into my bed. They all croaked. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I wasn't about to try growing any of those hot dry climate plants in my Maine garden, but I like looking at them and knowing what they are.

And, it turns out that when I looked up the Pincushion plant, it's in the Protea family.
