For Texas agapanthus, the trick to get them to bloom is to pour large quantities of high phosphorous on them beginning around March. Do that weekly for a month and they will bloom like crazy.

I love dark-leaved dahlias. They provide riots of colors and add contrast to the garden. Aside from the superb ones mentioned above, there are other remarkable beauties such as Dahlia David Howard, Dahlia Moonfire, Dahlia Melody - all of them have won multiple awards. If you like this type of dahlias, here is a helpful article: https://www.jardins-sans-secret.com/detail/3026/Dahlias-with-Black-Foliage.html

I fell in love with agapanthus the first summer I lived in California. They're everywhere because they're gorgeous, AND they can grow in clay soil so heavy it kills everything else!
