This is my Hellstrip garden in Toronto, Ontario. I researched salt resistant plants that can handle poor soil plus the West end gets scorched and the rest is mostly shady.

Trees in the urban landscape have a lifespan of only about 1/5 of those out in the wild, and the reason is people don't take the time to read up on a plant that will add value and beauty to the property if cared for properly. Here is a few rules to live by: Don't chop out the roots of your favorite tree to make room for a shrub, don't hammer nails into the trunks, Don't pile up extra soil nor mulch around the trunk. Don't cut all the branches off (called hat racking). If you have a landscaper doing this to your trees, find another landscaper. All of these practices hurt your trees. It will weaken and shorten the lives on one of the most important plants on your property.

Wow, these are all so beautiful. Anything not within our fence or on city property (the curb area) would be trampled and ruined in a day, as well as filled with inconsiderate dog walkers' waste.
