Some good advice, some not so good. The problem is, you can't please all the people all the time. I hate chemical smells as much as I hate a certain network dictating what colors we should paint our homes & what color appliances we must buy, but then we don't bake gf cookies to make the house smell good &somebody else gets their feelings hurt. It's all gotten a bit ridiculous.

I agree. If things like this break major deals like the purchase of a home it is really ridiculous. Most people will change it to their liking anyway. I like a clean canvas myself so i can see the most considerble issues, i.e., are there any wall indentations, baseboard stains, cracks, etc. These all can be signs of major issues. But to each his own I guess. I am selling my home 80% empty with just a few items to give a lived in feel. That way they can focus on the beautiful granite, paint, baseboards, lighting, windows, doors, tile, carpet, hardwood all just installed.

Lighten up! For 75$! And yes! Small things can have a big emotional impact. Fragrance, natural light, colors (white) all evoke positive responses or at least better responses than the alternatives...stink, dark, drab. Fine establishments have known and used these “tricks” to woo customers for ages. Take a page from the books of the pros and sell your house quicker and for more. Because people buy with emotions.
