To oanorcid: in my experience the agents with the glossiest marketing materials are the scumbags. They just want a commission and will try to convince you to set a lower asking price so it is easier for them to sell.

One can read a lot about the potential of an agent on Zillow, etc. Agents cannot add their own reviews. Zillow makes sure the review is written by the customer.

I have been a full time agent for 21 years. I do not have a team as I enjoy the relationship with my clients and one of my points of difference is my high level of customer service. It is not about the number of homes I sell a year, it is about helping each client move on to the next phase of their life. As a full time agent, I work basically 24/7. Being a dedicated Realtor is NOT a job for the weak. It is a very tough career. Trust me, I speak from experience.

To call real estate agents that have glossy marketing materials scumbags is...sorry I can't think of anything other than just wrong. And no I don't think you need to interview at least 3 agents and employ the one who loves it the most. I've been an active real estate agent, now broker, since 1987. I have met countless successful real estate agents and the one thing we all have in common is hard work. We have to have a wide range of skills, we're decorators, marriage counselors, financial advisers, market analysts, and at times, fortune tellers. We keep an updated list of vendors so we can provide our clients with recommendations for roofers, painters, plumbers, you name it, We are available to them for almost any consultation, oh and please remember, we don't get paid until the deal closes. What other profession works for free with the hope of a paycheck at the end. Why do we do it? For me it has always been about helping my buyers find a home they love and helping my sellers move on. I enjoy my work, I have found that building trust is key, and many of my clients have become my friends.
