Typically cats hate fabrics that they can't claw into - leather (or bycast leather), microfiber and velvets are really good in repelling kitties. For dogs, the issue would most probably be the shedding and stains, therefore something heavy duty as they're rougher than kitties as well. At the very least get washable sofa covers, at least you'd get to wash the stains off! :)

@tuesdaystoday sealed cork flooring might not be your best bet with puppies and kitties. Scratches are very obvious with cork flooring especially with bigger dogs. Trimming their claws would help but you'd have to do it frequently so that they don't scratch the floors.

Please consider flirts that DO give traction, if you have a breed that is prone to hip dysplasia. Nothing was sadder than seeing our poor old boy struggling to maintain his footing on our newly installed wood laminate floors. We ended up adding a rug that covered almost all of the new flooring, just so our dogs hips would last longer.

The new vinyl laminate planks have a clean look to them that is waterproof and scratch resistant. And it looks as good as many of the wood laminates, and super easy to install. All you need is a utility knife. Perfect option for pet owners.
