I like the fact, that, 'Houzz' is adding the drafting drawings. Nice job! I can tell from his choice of materials that the owner likes the outdoors.

" There always seem to be comments clamoring for original details that simply no longer existed when it comes to Victorian homes, without the understanding that many of them have already been erased years ago."

Remember that in the 1920s and 30s these houses had all the sentimental value and style cachet that a 1990s suburban ranch house has now ... they were "dated". Ripping out that horrible paneling was done as fast as y'all rip out honey oak cabinets and laminate countertops.

The housing in San Feancisco has continually been evolving: Being converted to rooming houses, split into apartments and back to single family homes, windows removed and bricked up, windows added, doors added and doors filled in, mantels removed and sold for salvage, staircase spindles ripped out and burned by squatters, ornamental metalwork handed in as scrap for WWII scrap metal drives ... that's what happened to these details everyone wants to preserve.

They ain't there no more!

And some of the details were the equivalent of particleboard, slapped onto a low-cost spec house being built during a housing boom ... my BIL had an ornate mantlepiece fall apart as he was removing it. It was mostly molded sawdust with just enough wood to hold it onto the wall.

Thank you tsudhominh, this comes up in practically every SF Victorian renovation story, where the wonderful details were already LONG gone by the time the current homeowners snatched up the homes!
