After finalizing the flooring and faucets for your bathroom, you may be tempted to give the window treatment short shrift. But a thoughtful choice can really enhance the room’s overall look — as these beautiful bathing spaces prove.
Run for the Hills
Keep It Simple

Although the wallpaper isn’t minimal, the pretty window film (used only on the bottom panes to maximize light) definitely leans toward the barely there category. It’s a marriage made in heaven. The unobtrusive window treatment lets the botanical wallpaper shine, while the wallpaper frames the window beautifully, allowing it to be a standout feature too.

If you’re putting up window film, the panes must be spotless for the film to go on smoothly. And if you’re worried about wallpaper in a bathroom, consider a vinyl wallcovering or a coat of decorators varnish on regular wallpaper.

Look to the Past

This dramatic bathroom window has custom shutters influenced by the Tudor period. Back then, it was difficult to make big pieces of glass, so the panes were tiny and held together with lead in a crisscross or other pattern. The panes on these shutters are frosted for privacy but still maintain their period feel.

Strive for Cohesion

These shutters are brilliant for lots of reasons. They echo the lines of the subway tiles for an integrated look. They ensure that this on-the-tiny-side bathroom gets a luxe window treatment without impinging on the space. And they provide privacy while letting in light.

If you’re considering shutters in your bathroom, it’s probably best to go for vinyl shutters since they resist moisture.

Hang Flowing Drapes

Curtains in a bathroom can cause controversy, but just look how beautiful the result can be. Cotton fabrics hold up well in humid conditions, or you could even opt for an outdoor fabric. It’s made to withstand rain, so it can easily cope with a few splashes. Otherwise, go for a fabric you love — just pick something machine-washable so that you can run it through the washing machine when you need to.

Install Crisp Shades

Your eyes undoubtedly are feasting on the statement roll-top bath, but doesn’t that simple Roman shade also grab your attention? It’s just what this elegant room needed in the way of a window treatment. The shade complements the all-white palette perfectly and helps soften the minimalist design.
Shutterly Fabulous
Cocoon With Color

The color of these shutters matches the walls, resulting in an enveloping effect that surely would help you unwind at the end of a busy day.

If you’re going for full-height shutters, it’s a good idea to pick a design with a divider rail that lets you operate the louvers above and below it separately.

Be Open

Don’t like the feeling of being enclosed? One option is a solar roller shade. The special mesh fabric filters sunlight while allowing you to see out and preventing those outside from seeing in. But there is a hitch. It works only during the day. At night, when the lights are on, the reverse happens, so this is probably only for bathrooms that aren’t exposed.

Focus on the Glass

Just look at how this window holds its own amid the fabulous tile. A stained-glass window makes a statement, so if you are in the middle of a renovation project or just want to invest in new glass, incorporating one is a sure-fire way to add character to your bathroom.

On a budget? Window film with a stained-glass effect can look stunning, and there’s a wide range of designs, including ones from the Victorian, Art Deco and Art Nouveau eras.

Do the Unexpected

Hang a mirror in front of your window? It’s not as crazy as it sounds — just look at this chic bathroom. Window film takes care of any privacy issues, and the round mirror (along with the painting in the corner) brings an element of surprise to this otherwise calm space. Going for something unconventional can sometimes be a result of having limited options — like having to put the sink under the window because of a lack of space or an inability to move the plumbing.

Accessorize

Creating a little vignette (a carefully curated collection of objects designed to draw the eye) is another stylish way to dress your window. Here, a simple wooden shelf holds a pretty potted plant and a framed black-and-white photo. The small baskets in the mix look nice and corral odds and ends.
