6. Calming and Cool in Chicago
Erica Lugbill of Lugbill Designs
worked with her clients to create a watery blue, textured tile accent wall in their 49-square-foot bathroom. “This makes the space appear larger by creating a continuous sightline between the shower and the rest of the bathroom,” Lugbill says.
“There are a handful of different graphic-patterned field tiles that were installed randomly over the whole wall. This created a subtle graphic pattern with high impact,” she says.

Interior designer Janet Shea Interiors created this 5-by-8-foot bathroom in Cohasset, Massachusetts, in a mostly navy-and-white palette to give it a nautical feel. “We decided to use navy tile for the upper third of the tiled walls to keep this small bath from feeling too dark,” she says. A Shaker-style weathered wood vanity and weathered wood-look porcelain floor tile add warmth and texture to the space.
