Buy 12"x12" brick pavers at Home Depot and lay them right on the dirt where you want a patio or walkway. I have made using this technique, no installation required. They sink in a little eventually and look pro (see photo). Also get as many plants into the ground as you can. The plants along this fence have been growing for 4 years - before that there was nothing at all. The sooner you plant the sooner they get big.

Gazebo - check (thanks, Orchard supply! threw it on top of the Pilot and drove it to FL).
Porch - check. Love our covered ones - one for dining, one for our outside couches, front porch when we want to relax in the evening.
Pergolas - sigh... Would have loved one on the dock but, well, know your husband's limits. He did get us rounded up to put up the gazebo.
Shade trees - lots; love the little islands planted like that. Many in our neighborhood plant these islands in our large front lawns.
Fans - check. Tropical and cool.
Swimming pool - check (but among gorgeous fancy houses on east coast of FL, they are routinely smaller than our Bay Area CA one was. Why? I can be in ours here almost all year long).

Water feature? That was my concession for the move. Have to have a dock for my boat. The silly jumping mullet are an extra bonus ...
