With an ever increasing number of home-based businesses starting during the last couple of years, it has become even more important to create a space in which you are comfortable working, as well as having meetings with clients. As an added incentive, there is something to be said for a home office design that fully represents the brand you are trying to create. I congratulate all of you who have started your own business — it is a crazy adventure on which I also started about seven years ago.
Here are seven tips and tricks for designing your home office environment to reflect your business, and be comfortable for all possible work situations.

1. Provide comfortable seating for guests. There are two types of situations in which you might have clients stop by your office: for creative strategy sessions, or for business meetings. In this chic blue office, filled with glamour from floor to ceiling, a large white leather sofa is perfect for a casual review session or to just sit around with clients after the business is all taken care of.
Sometimes an office doesn't have room for multiple seating situations. In this garage-turned-office environment, two ladder back chairs give visitors a place to sit in front of a desk to review documents. The more casual setting is finished off with attractive table lamps and a cozy vibe.
2. Allow for more casual meetings. Okay, not all offices have the real estate this one does. This impressive home office portrays savvy business acumen all around. From the darker wood paneling to the barrel vaulted ceiling, this office is all business. The key here is the seating area just past the desk area. With chairs for four, this setup is ready for some serious strategy sessions or maybe toasting a successful business deal just wrapped up.
3. Create an environment to reflect your business. There is some serious wheeling and dealing going on in this room. Maybe a movie deal or large financial transactions. Whatever it is, this office portrays confidence and power, while being on the more relaxed side. Notice the small playful touches: antlers, an hour glass sitting on the desk and a very cool industrial desk light. It just says "Take me seriously, but let's also have some fun."
4. Allow for privacy, when required. When having clients in your home, it's important to be able to close off the office from daily household activites for privacy purposes. Here a couple of rustic barn doors are used to both create a nice entrance into the office, but also provides privacy when needed.
5. Surround yourself and clients with luxury. This may really depend on the type of business or you could alter how "luxury" is defined to fit your brand image. In this simple and luxurious office, deep toned and highly graphic wallpaper surrounds the desk. Sculptural console lamps and a mirror add just the right amount of decoration. This office, with it's rich environment, is really all about the business while feeling comfortable and taken care of.
6. Show off your organization skills. An organized office goes a long way to show clients your success and your ability to keep on top of what you are doing (I'll be the first to admit that I really need to clean my office!). This office has all the right organization features: cubbies for rolled up plans, paper storage, cord control accessories and open shelving to show off treasured items. There's nothing wrong with showing your personal side.
7. Provide a common work area. If you're in a more creative business in which you might be working collaboratively with employees or other professionals, a separate work surface allows for impromptu meetings, away from someone's desk. This small round table is just big enough to roll out a set of plans or spread documents out for all to see.
