Intentional living - that statement speaks loudly to us. We are in the process of renovating a 989 sq ft bungalow I have lived in for 13 years and my fiance joined me a little over a year ago. We lived in it the way it was for a while (I refer to it as ghetto-style). With a month off over December and a year of living together we started renovating. Upstairs none of the changes have included moving of walls; use of color, attention to use of space and spaciousness, repurposing and refinishing what we have and creating 'our space' was the inspiration. Downstairs was a bowling ally. By removing part of a wall we have created space for a library/fireplace area. This perfectly suits both of us as we are lovers of books and reading. It was important for us to dream first, assess what we have, consider what can be done with it (repair, restore, repurpose, refinish or remove), add what is needed to complete and work together (each with our own special skills). As we are both believers in 'new is the last option' we've been able to maintain a budget and our beloved pieces have found new life and love. Tomorrow we pick up my long-ignored 'Old Dame' chair. The picture I have of her prior to reupholstery makes her look like she had a big glass of scotch prior; not a straight or undamaged spot on her. Having this completed professionally was our big splurge. While going through the Restore (Habitat for Humanity) we discovered her cohort (in need of repair and refinishing and $15).
