Most of the houses you've shown appear to be very large, and some of them have at least one wall to the side of the door. My front door opens between the open-plan living room and kitchen. It directly faces stairs (open on the living room side) going up to a hallway leading to the bedrooms, and just to the right of that are enclosed stairs going down to the family room. Anything put perpendicular to the doorway would just be something you'd have to go around to get into the living room or kitchen. And in spite of having the stairs facing the door and no entryway whatsoever, both my realtor and I knew within seconds of walking through the front door that this was the house for me. Sometimes a foyer or entryway just isn't necessary!
