A whole chapter on Anti-Snow Plow mail boxes, please.

Two of my childhood favorites to see when driving to Grandma's farm was a very heavy-duty chain welded in a question-mark shape with the bottom in concrete and the mailbox dangling from the top and an industrial metal spring set vertically which still had the ability to bend when contacted; also posts planted farther from the road with a heavy arm set at a 60º angle making the mailbox itself a smaller, higher target. (I think this last one might have been a lever that could adjust the box to sit above the growing wall of snow.) Finally, a mailbox on a post set in a pail of concrete; easily righted when knocked over (after digging it out of the mounded snow) and less damaged since it offered less resistance to the attacking force. Please note: that "portable" design may not be legal now; perhaps it never was.

love the idea of the lockbox in #10, there have been a lot of package thefts in our area. As to the slot in the wall---we have one of those, and I love it, but there are many times when it doesn't work very well, such as when catalogs, magazines, or large ads are delivered. If the mailman is able to get the piece of mail all the way in the slot, we have to twist and bend it to get it out, other times the mail is left sticking out of the slot.

Yes, an article on country USPS approved mailboxes, please! After losing ours to snowplows, my husband built a support out of replaced telephone poles with a shelf between for the mailbox and newspaper box) with reflectors on the telephone poles. We did receive a note in the box telling us (40 years ago) that mailbox supports needed to be less strong if hit by the rural carrier's own car. We didn't replace it and nothing more was ever said. I did hear it get hit one night by the plow and it now bears a huge scar but it still stands!
