Love the article, thanks Becky! We installed heat pumps for zone heating and cooling last summer. But our downstairs has open doorways. So this winter, when we only wanted to heat the large living room and kitchen/dining room, keeping the entry closed off, we took a page from our long residency in England and hung a heavy patterned damask fabric on one opening and a solid piece on the other end of the entry hall. Himself was quite clever and used the heavy rods left over from installing our closet system in the Master bedroom. These are fitted very close to the top of the openings, just enough to let the fabric slide. They worked perfectly and looked beautiful. We will simply take them off as soon as the chilly nights are over (North Bay, CA) until next Nov. luckily, I love textiles and had some larger pieces.
