For the Boys: 5 Homes With Masculine Energy
Mensware, minimalism, and modern man-friendliness at home
I write this ideabook with my tongue placed firmly in my cheek, as whenever I try to attack some man-centric subject, people write in and say "you can tell a chick tried to write this about dudes." Well, busted, but these are seriously chic spaces where real guys actually dwell. In fact, four out of five of them are bachelor pads, without a table made out of a keg in sight.
This San Francisco condo was inspired by fashion, in particular by one of the homeowner's jobs as a stylist at Ralph Lauren. A rich leather sofa, a bearskin throw and pillows covered in suit fabric give the room a warm and masculine feeling.
Metallic finishes, a Chinoiserie cabinet and more menswear-inspired fabrics on the window treatments keep things from getting girly.

This Pacific Heights home was designed to be minimal, unique, and have European flair.
An 8-foot-long fireplace keeps the crisp space warm, as do unique accent pieces like this antique Indonesian rain drum.

This is still one of my favorite moments of photo styling. In fact, it inspired an entire ideabook about the Seven Deadly Sins. This shot served as gluttony.

This clever L.A.-based blogger, Dabito, has amassed and curated an impressive collection of thrifted vintage treasures. These pieces are arranged throughout his home in a way that makes it look easy (it's not).
Items like an alpaca blanket from Ecaudor are cozy not only for Dabito, but also for Beatrice Arthur, a star Houzz pet.

Finally, we'll travel down to Buenos Aires to get a peek at a small but luxurious loft. This beautiful space takes advantage of every spare inch without giving up a bit of polish. There's even a gallery to gaze at above the bed.
The home was as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city and career demands. Thus, a custom platform bed bedecked in soft textiles was a must.
While this looks like a sleek bar, it’s actually a fully-functioning kitchen. Appliances and supplies are incorporated into the wall and cabinets. See the rest of this home
