Gift Stations Have Style Wrapped Up
Put the perfect finish on presents with a wrapping area that keeps paper, ribbon and tissue in their places
Spring is here, and that can mean only one thing: lots of gift wrapping! Weddings, graduations, Mother's Day and Father's Day have us wishing for a designated space to makes those presents pop. After all, when it comes to a fabulous gift, perfect packaging is half the battle. Here are a few ideas for creating a functional, streamlined wrapping room to meet every need.
Ribbon is to the present what icing is to the cake: It makes it so much more delicious. If you have to choose between storing rolls of paper or yards of ribbon on the wall, we'd choose ribbon any day. Wall storage prevents staining, fraying and curling. Plus, it adds a decorative touch.
Beautiful gift wrapping requires a suitable surface for spreading paper. An island like this is ideal because it provides plenty of room for the gift, paper, ribbon and scissors.
Having ribbon organized and where you can see it is crucial for quickly converting a bottle of wine into a hostess gift or a stack of pretty notepads into a thank-you. Keeping all your ribbons sorted in one spot makes it seem like you spent hours contemplating, even if you tied a bow on the fly.
If an island isn't an option, any empty counter will do. The laundry room is a great spot because the counters can be used for wrapping when they aren't being used for folding.
If drawer space is at a premium, there's no reason that all the essentials can't still be right at hand. Charming baskets are perfect for filling with tape, scissors, gift bags, tissue paper and extra ribbon. Tiny chalkboards are useful for labeling and organizing.
Having assorted rolls of wrapping paper on dowels is the essence of a wonderful wrapping room, because you can cut a piece to fit without having to pull the roll in and out or worry about it rolling up while you're trying to cut.
If you're one of those people who can't ever seem to get the edges of the paper quite right, you can still make your wrapping look polished. Drawers and cabinet dividers provide perfect spots for bags for every occasion.
Magazine racks or letter sorters double as tissue paper storage. Simply tie a pretty ribbon in a simple knot and add elegant tissue paper — we're fans of scalloped edges — for a pretty present with much less work.

If you have some room for wrapping but can't commit to storing bags and paper for any occasion, get selective. Keep several rolls of natural kraft paper and a few rolls of shiny white, add the right bow for the occasion, and you're good to go. Natural kraft paper gift bags paired with tissue paper and tied with raffia are a good look for most gifts, simple and streamlined.
