Well it has been 105 (F) lately so i brought my tenderest plants into the sunroom and clustered big pots under trees near sprinklers for 4th of July trek to in-laws. I have been going back to school gardens to keep flowers and herbs alive hauling buckets where the hoses can't reach.

Switching to native plants takes away a lot of these worries and pre-vacation chores. My potted plants a watered by a friend. The rest takes care of it itself :)

I found some long, narrow funnel attachments that turn used water bottles into drip systems for potted plants. The funnels have small holes at the end and screw onto the water bottles, The system I found had a chemical additive that jelled the water and slowed its release into the pot.

The only drawback is the sort of tacky look of the funnels and the commercial labels on the old water bottles. But then, no one's in the garden while we're on vacation, so appearance isn't too important.
