Thank you Bud, this is really helpful. Mine is one of those houses where we had to rip everything out and dry the basement. Wood paneling and carpet were a mess and I would like to avoid such materials in case of future infiltrations. Since we have to start from scratch, what type of flooring would you recommend? Thanks again.

Hi mercedesnunez-
If budget allows and you're in a colder climate, I'd recommend a stained concrete floor with radiant heat installed. You can either remove the existing concrete or pour a topping slab over it if ceiling height allows. If you do remove the existing concrete I really recommend an interior drain tile be installed. I've had this done a few times with great success.
Good luck!

Looking for ways to clean up and update our OLD unfinished basement, this article has helped a lot! We haven't had a flood that filled the place, but have had water leak in from many different storms over multiple years. Scared to even begin, but again, this article helps. Thanks!
