The blood grass in my garden has not spread. It is mixed with a lot of drought tolerant and has not performed well. Maybe needs more water. FYI in love in the Bat area of northern CA.

I did some research on this plant. On the USDA website, it states that Japanese Blood Grass, also known as Cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica), is listed as a Federal Noxious Weed under the Plant Protection Act, which makes it illegal in the U.S. to import or transport between States without a permit. It is even a prohibited plant in some states!! It is in the TOP 10 worst weeds in the world! From the Arkansas Extension Service website "It
disrupts ecosystem functions, reduces wildlife habitat, decreases
tree seedling growth and establishment success, and
alters fire regimes and intensity."

Here is a link to a flyer put out by the USDA

Mine has not performed that great either except in a container. It does look very good in a container. I have never seen mine bloom either which I find interesting.
