Some of these are absolutely brilliant....what a clever idea! I wouldn't worry about the fire escape thingy....you could easily smash some of those windows out in an emergency.

Thanks for this article Becky. I am a fan of the look but think the reality would be hard to live with - cleaning etc. As someone said it would not suit all situations but maybe a solution for some, they would just have to think through the how to make it work in their individual situation.

Yep,the glass cleaning is an issue.I have opaque glass doors above my cooker bench- the extractor helps but it requires quite a lot of elbow grease to maintain them.Some of these ideas were lovely,especially the shelves over windows,charming but not easy to clean those window panes.

My practical side defeats me!
