Privet is not as invasive as bamboo. It is both heat and cold hardy. It is evergreen in Oklahoma and we had 8 degrees last week and can have 110 in July. It can be trimmed into neat, thick hedge or allowed to feather out naturally. It has lovely scented flowers in the spring and lots of black berries, beloved by birds in the fall. It is great for screening as it grows very fast-up to 3 feet a year. If it escapes-which is by seedlings, nor rhizomes, it is very easy to pull up the babies and move them or to mow them down in the lawn. I don't know why more people don't use it-especially in Texas where I think it would do just as well.

Bamboo in the Atlanta, Ga area is a nightmare. It is seriously invasive and will ruin your neighbor's yard. I do like the idea of planting it in a pot. I imagine that is pretty.
