I purchased this solid wood desk at a local furniture store for my older son for his bedroom. It was only $199 plus delivery. I purchased a desk chair at Ikea. It doesn't have a file drawer or keyboard drawer but it has plenty of storage space for the supplies he needs to complete his schoolwork. It also has generous desktop space for projects. I had a piece of thick, stiff clear plastic cut at a hardware store to protect the desk top.

I figure at this low price I can purchase a metal filing cabinet at a used office furniture store at a later date and still come out ahead of a lot of these desks. If I don't like the color I can take it to an autobody store to get it painted.
