I have grown African Blue Basil, which branches out into a lovely plant that bees love. My basils don't like a full day of bright sun, preferring it from noon onward. Herbs are a delight because they don't require much care: catmint, nasturtiums, thyme, oregano, sage, rosemary. The basil and Italian parsley grow better on my Pennsylvania porch.

Too much sun/heat and they go to seed. Partial sun is the way to go - or for a few hours a day of full sun.
