The irony is that Nest is a Google company.

Believing that all these different devices from all these different companies will seamlessly talk to each other is a pipe dream. There is no one programming standard in the firmware of these devices, even if they are all on WiFi (IP). There has to to be a central controller/bridge. If I'm on a telephone and you're talking Japanese and I'm talking Russian doesn't mean that we will understand each other just because we can hear each other, let alone follow commands. Trying to get these big companies to agree on any one way to do things is next to impossible. What you wind up with is a collection of apps on your phone/tablet with you as the controller making it Home Control and not whole house automation. It's the reason we have a brain, it's our central controller for our body, nature's tried and true method of taking multiple input/events to multiple output/actions.

Automated Project Solutions

As a professional installer of ‘smart technology’ I can’t emphasise enough the importance of having a system installed professionally. When messing wiht home Electrics, Integration to 3rd party systems and then guaranteeing the works meet legislation, regulations and CEDIA standard means you can in the future sell you home knowing the system meets the requirements of that time. IoT is great but if you want a guranteed quality it has to be professionally installed. These systems are now much more affordable than even 2 years ago and retrofittable, therefore very cost effective.
