Homeowner remodeling plans remain strong despite an uncertain economy, according to the 2026 U.S. Houzz Renovation Plans Report. More than 9 in 10 U.S. homeowners say they plan to move forward with their remodeling projects in 2026. More than 9 in 10 homeowners also plan to work with professionals.
“Homeowners are committed to their planned projects in 2026, fully aware of the challenges ahead,” says Marine Sargsyan, head of economic research at Houzz. “Long-term structural trends, paired with homeowners’ desire to stay put and personalize their living spaces, continue to support renovation activity, even as they navigate inflation and a shifting economic landscape.”

While overall confidence is strong across all project budgets, 60% of homeowners with a project budget of $50,000 or more say they are very confident of moving forward in 2026. By comparison, 47% of homeowners with a $10,000 to $29,999 budget and 43% of those with a budget of $30,000 to $49,999 are very confident.

They also plan to hire electricians (31%); carpet and flooring specialists (30%); plumbers (26%), tile, stone or countertop specialists (24%); painters (24%); cabinet and cabinetry contractors (23%); carpenters (21%); and window and door specialists (15%).

For renovations of $50,000 and more, pro hiring increases. Fifty-five percent of homeowners in this budget category plan to hire general contractors. Also in the mix for $50,000-plus projects are custom builders (33%), kitchen or bath designers (30%), design-build firms (24% ) and interior designers (20%).
Specialty contractor hiring on $50,000-plus projects is higher as well: electricians (52%); cabinets and cabinetry (39%); tile, stone or countertop specialists (36%); carpet and flooring specialists (35%); plumbers (35%); painters (32%); window and door specialists (27%); and carpenters (26%).

Uncertain national economic trends are not affecting project confidence levels among the vast majority of respondents. Ninety-one percent of homeowners are confident or somewhat confident of moving forward with their projects this year. Just 9% are uncertain.
Homeowners with higher household incomes are more confident about proceeding with their projects than those with lower incomes. Sixty-four percent of those earning $150,000 to $200,000 annually and 60% of homeowners earning $200,000-plus annually are very confident of moving ahead. That compares with 32% of those with household incomes of $50,000 to $100,000.
