Wood kitchens (while still popular) are beautiful and the cabinet boxes will always be wood. A 'cleanable material' is vital in a kitchen.

However, most of kitchens projects we do, the homeowners are choosing maintenance-free laminate doors. With new advances and the more trendy & desirable 'flat colors' for kitchens, laminate is over 85% of our kitchens projects. With just a wipe it's clean—no lemon oil required. :) Happy remodeling!

Question to you contractors: Can I have a contractor do the bare basics like pull permits, push out walls, redo roof line(s) and just leave it a blank room of drywall that I finish myself??

Are there contractors who allow the homeowner to do a lot of it themselves? Like basic demo, digging out old plumbing, and final finishes (cabinet install, appliance install, tiling/flooring, millwork, etc)

I would want the contractor to stub in all the plumbing, electrical, drywall and all the items pertaining to gaining permits and a clean inspection. But the rest I would want to do myself. What do contractors think about that?
