We found nice colour called "Treasure map" for our kitchen. Except in the actual kitchen it looked more like 'Ancient Nicotine'. Repainted the next day and hosted a dinner party that night.

We had a living room painted like Adam Craig's but lived with it for a bit - wee little kids, money and time meant it hung around a awhile.

Daddy let the kids pick their own bedroom colours one time while I was away for a weekend. Came home to a decent but intense French Blue, and Pepto/Barbie Pink. We kept those because the kids were SO PROUD!!!

I've learned - hang out with the paint chips awhile. Day time/night time, and compare it with the floors and everything else. I've enjoyed some successes too.

Before we moved into our current home I had all the colors picked out and hired a painter. Bedroom: red accent wall & sand color for the rest. Kitchen: sunflower yellow. Bathroom: bright blue. Living room: Dark blue and pale green.

Well the bright blue was very bright indeed but the painter suggested I wait and see. Once everything was in there it was fine and I lived with it for over 10 years before a redo.

The pale green was not so pale and that one needed to be toned down. I knew immediately that I wouldn't be able to live with it. I love that green and wish I knew what the painter ended up choosing!

I always use this example. Yes, some colors are just plain ugly!
