TOTALLY AWESOME Frank Lloyd Wright inspired modern home - surely a dream come true for the proud owners Laurie Carlton-Marez and Tupper Cullum. Thanks to Mitchell Parker for sharing this with the Houzz community. I've participated in the annual Frank Lloyd Chicago Home Walk several times, most recently a few months ago - truly fantastic human inspired designs, dreamy if sometimes a bit hard / cold, and seriously ultra-modern for the time - certainly something to be admired and protected!

History has a way of changing people and needs, and so like Ms. Carlton-Marez, when we were given the task of taking on a Robbie House look-alike home project in a gated community in Shanghai China, we tried very hard to incorporate Frank Lloyd Wright elements (which I love) wherever we could, but given the needs of the owners and the passing of nearly a decade in advancements of kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, etc., we felt a need to somewhat unlock Frank Lloyd Wright's excellent design concepts from the constraints of time - our thinking being that even he would have modernized over the years and his designs in the 21st century would probably be quite a bit different than his earlier designs.

The main living floors of the new home are quite conservative and exhibit many FLW elements, but we completely re-interpreted the recreation and media center area to meet the owner's wish for a funky psychedelic chinoiserie fun zone - well, see for yourself in the ideabook below!

The Willet's house in Highland Park, IL is unfortunately in a very bad state of disrepair. It was one the key homes that influenced by decision to become an architect, and its been painful watching it deteriorate. Even the photo used in the article shows the beginning of the rot behind the stucco at the bottom of the exterior walls. I know it is an extremely difficult home to maintain, physically and financially. Attached is a rendering of the house, which shows the urns with plants in them.
