In the United States ALL homes should have a Point of Entry (POE) filtration system. PERIOD. Check out www.dreamtreefamily.com/fresH2o or Alkaline Antioxidant Water on FaceBook for some Quality Water options.

GE Refrigerator Water Filter

My wife and I currently use a simple Brita water pitcher. We are actually looking into getting a larger water system that attaches underneath our sink area. Nice read

UV filtration is also gaining popularity among consumers. While chlorine & chloramine addition provides continuous disinfection against microbiological contaminants, they add undesirable taste and odor to drinking water.

Chlorine/chloramine can also form toxic or corrosive chemicals or by-products. Just like Laura mentioned, a carbon adsorption filter is needed to filter chlorine out. Chloramine removal is even harder. Two-thirds of the water companies in California use chloramines to disinfect their drinking water, including Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which provides treated drinking water to 18 million residents in six counties (LADWP). Only special carbon block filters with pore sizes less than 0.5 micron are rated to remove chloramine.

Ultraviolet disinfection imparts no change in taste, odor, pH or conductivity. Since most UVs require pre-treated soft water to function properly, it's good practice to install one downstream of a undersink reverse osmosis purification system.
