D C - I've got the same problem in my yard. I'm planning to turn it into a Japanese garden with a series of small ponds & berms to help channel the water away from the house & veg garden all the way down to the neighbor's pond.
You might want to look into permaculture: turning problems into solutions, especially if you plan to grow a lot of edibles.

meeplet - Yes, I am hoping this spring/summer to get to do some of that. Actually, that is the final solution. If large swathes of that type of landscaping along with meadow plantings doesn't work, I am done. No more heavy equipment, no more contractors who fell of the back of a truck, I am going to let nature do it's thing.

We are moving to a lovely lake front property but the lake is an acre and a half slope down to the water. We know we will need a road way down for a boat launch and I am thinking of gravel or boardwalk path ideas. I want to minimize stairs as my knees are not the best. The slope will have a mix of morning sun and shade, and it faces the east for sunrise. It is on the south shore of Nova Scotia with a young forest of white pine and balsam fir. Not interested in mowing, just growing.
