Where does one find rough juniper like that pictured in Portland, OR? It's not exactly a widespread material.

In Seattle you can get it from Dunn Lumber, as a 6x6 (not a 4x4 which is shown in the photos, they dont carry them anymore unfortunately!) In Portland, not sure but they should be more widely available because they come from an Oregon based manufacturer: http://www.snwwood.com/blog/Juniper

I am in the process of building a self watering raised bed to replace grass in my parking strip. MANY THANKS to those who mentioned the need to open car doors, BEFORE I install--as a bicyclist I didn't think of that. To the commenter who is looking for a cheap solution, I built our first beds out of used 2 x 6 from the Restore (Habitat for Humanity used building supply). The latest bed is made out of heat treated (non toxic) pallets. Find articles and video on the safe reuse of pallets & how to build self watering beds.
