Penny V -- Kudos to you! what an undertaking! And you are approaching with such integrity! I am in a new place, so I, too, have much to learn as I figure out what is here and what to keep and nurture, and what must go. In other words, which of these are weeds to me, and which will be valued.

You sound far ahead of where I am in this process.

As for blackberries, I am in New England, and I can assure you I have had nuisance, aggressive bramble berries -- though the ones I had at the last place did have tasty berries. Don't know yet what my new brambles have for berries -- do know they have taken over great swaths.

I am aiming for maybe being able to join the county's master gardener program some year. But right now, I'm just a hobbyist, and happily so.

Penny V I know what your talking about. We moved into a home with a lovely ground cover until it tried to kill 2 bushes, and take out the gas line. This year I am smothering and so far it seems to be doing well.
