The "Russian appartment" looks both innovative and doable. Lots of books, wood panels and the rug give it a very Russian feel, with amazing precision. (The original space must be a semi-basement non-residential premises, not an appartment---a nod to Best Home Remodelling's comment).

There’s a remarkable ‘cupboard kitchen’ built in the back of Much Wenlock church, don’t know who designed it but very clever making it possible to open up in a very old church, and serve teas etc. Very good cabinetry.

Small kitchens are not just about clever, practical design but as janedale says, ingenious, thoughtful use of what is available.
