The 70's were diverse...yes, there was the plastic pop era (not my fav), but the decade's return to Home (spurred by the Bicentennial) were so much more welcoming and warm than the generic beige dwellings of today.

I SO agree Becky - I was a teenager in the 70's and I well remember the psychedelic-ness of my early teens, but it was the woodsy rustic style that captured my heart - we wore a perfume called Meadowsong and wore our hair very long, with our old ripped levis and western shirts, or embroidered muslin peasant blouses and mandala wrap skirts, we listened to John Denver and Neil Young - and if we had a room of our own, it was decorated in the soft colours of nature, had huge woodland (or cowboy) posters on the walls, lots of plants (I had a norfolk pine in my room) and candles everywhere. I also had a thing for red gingham (still do). I have heard millennials say that the 70's were so ugly in terms of fashion and decor (how would they know) - But they are the ones who are now embracing the macrame and the houseplants AND the fashions!

Even though I would not decorate like the 70's, I find myself always drawn to floor plans from the 70's. 3 out of of 4 houses I've lived in in the past 25 years have been some variation on a 70's style split level. Something about that style, that others find dated, I find appealing. I broke the mold once, bought a 1 story built in 2000. It was a great architect designed home with high ceilings, cherry everywhere, windows and views to die for. But I never was quite as comfortable as in my other 70's era homes. I guess just like music, you are comfortable with what you grew up with.
