Very interesting article. Thanks for the many comments, too. I'll definitely stay away from this paper product as a countertop consideration. Sounds just too darned problematic, especially when there are so many other, better choices. Not water and stain resistant -- say no more!

I put Paperstone Cabernet in my kitchen last year and am loving it! Haven't put any hot pans on it, but have spilled plenty of everything (water, oils, acids) with no adverse effects. It has a subtle visual texture to it that I like, wipes up fine, and feels very smooth to the touch. Some slight changes to that visual texture over time don't bother me - it feels like it's more alive that way, somehow. More like wood. I didn't want the cold hard feel of stone or metal, nor the distraction of strong patterning. I think of the Paperstone's burgundy tone as "settling" my kitchen. It doesn't call specific attention to itself, but shows off everything on and around it beautifully. Especially the green glass backsplash.

We recently installed Richlite Stratum on the sink side and the PlyBoo three ply counter on the peninsula side. I was very impressed by the hardness of the surface, and the beauty of the finish on the Stratum. We did finish both surfaces with the sealer supplied by the company. The remodel came out great, and I think the kitchen sold the home.
