Vetrazzo is gorgeous; I'm torn between "Cobalt Sky" and Floating Blue". That said, it's more expensive than all but the most rare granites, marbles & quartzites! I asked a contractor why a product manufactured from seemingly cheap, common materials would be so expensive, I learned about one of its other downsides. It's relatively easy to cut granite because it is homogeneous, and a saw can be set to cut at the same speed through a whole slab. But with a product that's a mix of recycled glass & concrete, the density isn't homogeneous through the piece, and when the saw blade hits the pieces of glass it can speed up & crack the slab, so it's much slower & more difficult to cut!

Concrete and cement based countertop materials can be cast, processed, and sealed in ways that make them as durable as any other material on the market. If done properly, nothing more than periodic maintenance and a possible rejuvenation if one sees any problems. We fabricate and install concrete counters and it's been a long winding road to discovery, but knowing how to process and get sealer deep into the structure of the concrete. Tile and stone dealers will not work. Wax does not work. Concrete doesn't have to be a sensitive subject for maintenance issues.
