@gardnersdream that is hilarious about you not having a vent hood! My first house didn't have one either, it had this terrible antique wall fan up in the corner of the kitchen that vented to outside. Not a terrible idea, but terrible in that the first time I ever turned it on (which was also the last time), it made a horribly scary moaning noise and then promptly died. I don't have a true hood now either, just a microwave over the range with an obnoxious sounding exhaust fan built into it. I rarely use it as I hate that kind of noise.

I have reclaimed pine board kitchen counters myself (old floorboards harvested from my attic). They were installed in 2001 and the only trouble spot is around the sink. Not from splashing (I am pretty vigilant about wiping up any puddles/splashes with a dry towel), but from the faucets leaking around their bases. So there is a bit of damage at the base of my Hot and Cold, but nothing devastating yet.

@Blue Wren: I'm thinking of copper as a sink, though but wood counter top. That's why I'm wanting to know about her sink area. Becky mentioned that in time, there will be damage. Faucets do leak. :)

So, I'll work with my Interior designer/decorator on doing something coolio with metal around the sink and even up the back wall as a splash. Might work as a deep sink like the Shaw with a copper around it and up the backsplash to the windows. My island with a cook top will also be wood counter aka bench top. (I like that description better - bench top.) LOL But I'll either use mineral oil or tung oil on it. But then that bronze is awesome.....

@celestina89 - I love copper sinks! I have a marble double-butler sink (what you call a farmhouse sink). I never thought I could be in love with a sink, but I seriously am. It's deep (so dirty dishes piled in it are not visible - yes we are on tank water so generally try to wait until we have a few to make sure that as little water is wasted as possible, plus, you know, I live on the driest continent on the planet...) and it's varying shades of peach, grey and cream. Yes, there is crazing in the bottom, but because of the colour that has enhanced rather than detracted from the appearance.
