Loving Color: More Ways to Like Stripes
Wake up a room with multiple types of stripes — or just one dramatic band of color
Like the stripes you're seeing in home décor just about everywhere? Stripes add something unexpected to your space, and can even visually expand a room. However, instead of considering the typical alternating stripes in two colors, today’s stripes can be applied in a variety of ways, widths and colors. If you think this idea could be up your alley, check out the following pictures to see if one of these stripe styles could be for you.
Small rooms, like bathrooms, can benefit from horizontal stripes, as they help the space to appear larger. A variety of green hues are punctuated by an unexpected pop of blue in these stripes, giving this bathroom a fresh, happy vibe.
Who said every stripe must be the same width? With a variation in size, this striped wall takes on an entirely new attitude. Throw pillows and upholstery pull the color of the stripes into the room, helping the overall look to feel cohesive.
Give bold a try by choosing bright colors and skinnier widths that make room for more stripes. This bathroom will surely wake you up in the morning.
Here’s another striped wall in a kids room, accentuated by alphabet tiles.
Mud rooms could always use a little extra love. This mud room went from everyday to colorfully expressive with the addition of stripes.
If you like the idea of stripes but aren’t sure about covering the entire wall, go for one accent stripe. You can apply it to one wall or carry it around the entire room. Either way, it will introduce an interesting décor element to your space.
A border in a darker color accentuates this stripe, giving it emphasis and reflecting the richer colors of the room’s palette.
When thinking about your stripe application, consider your furnishings. This designer employed the one stripe idea, yet took careful measurements so the top of the headboards hit the bottom of the stripe, creating a cohesive design.
Take the one-stripe idea a step further by breaking it into smaller stripes. It gives the stripe more definition and energy.
Or what about two stripes? The stripes on this wall immediately catch the eye, creating a distraction from noticing the lower ceiling of this living room.
Nobody said the ceiling was off limits. Use this photo to inspire a totally distinctive stripe application. This stripe manages to feel both retro and contemporary all at once, and you certainly won’t find it everywhere you turn.
