Just returned from Phoenix. While there on a golf vacation, I admired these beautiful cacti and wondered why they had so many holes in them, how old the very tall ones were, etc. This very informative article answered all of my questions. Thank you!

We just returned home from Scottsdale, Cave Creek and Sedona. Many of the saguaros there have blossomed, fruited and the fruit had split open to look almost like red flowers. I have never seen any of our local saguaros do that. We have blossoms and green fruit. Did ours not get pollinated? Or is this because they are all imports?
