Filipinos are, by nature, very hospitable. We always welcome relatives who pay us a visit and we offer them comfort while staying in our house. Short visits are ok.

While I leave very little on the counter (usually bananas only), I have a way to let people know where everything is in the kitchen. My cabinets have knobs and I hang small signs from them to show where glassware is, dishes are, snack/junk food, mugs, microwave (it's in the pantry), etc.

I have to kind of disagree with the thing about leaving your bed for guests to use. I would never ever want anyone to give up their bed for me and I think it is so strange when others visit and accept sleeping in someone else's bed. If grandma really cannot sleep on a comfortable sofa, I rather go and visit her.
