I'm still trying to figure out how to work with 70s plush mottled gold carpet in our living room. The boys like lounging on it, I hate wall to wall and the color and all the dirt it traps. One day I'm going to rip it out when they aren't looking and just paint over the bad patches on the wood floor underneath (it was originally two rooms) and throw an area rug over the whole thing. I priced some retro sculpted plush carpets to try to keep them happy, but they cost too much for the size I needed bound.

The floor and walls and ceiling were all yellow and I painted three walls sage green, and now I wish I went more olive. That old paint took washing, priming and 3 coats to fully cover, so we ran out of steam and said "good enough." Added some turquoise accents and rustic and ethnic and family pieces, and it is OK--just not my favorite. And if I really had my way, I would tear out the 60's lowered ceiling and raise it up at least a foot.

Normally I can figure something out that is OK, but at this point it isn't worth the work to do more before we move again. Maybe when the house is up for sale and most of the stuff is out. I'm a cheapskate too, so it can be a challenge to put this and that together and make it look like something, especially with frequent moves.

I'm much better with exteriors and architecture I think than interior design--to much little stuff to coordinate and make functional. Fortunately for me, hubby is mostly interested in function and comfort.
