Always use saucers under your potted house plants if you don't go with the look of a larger container . Another way to protect your hardwood floors is to place your pots on a rubber backed rug , or a larger tray . Beside water damage , you have to watch also for any loosed soil which can scratch your new wood floors. Don't forget to vaccum regulary around your winter ''garden'' and use felt furniture slides on the bottom of the saucers or larger containers . And finally , be aware of pest like scale bugs who can damage the floor . They secrete a sticky substance called honeydew that can be very difficult to be removed without sanding the floor. If you run into this situation remove any infested plants till you treat them and get rid of the bugs ! And least but not last , if you have cats train them not to go inside the pots and digg off the soil . I have a special container where I grow cat grass for my baby and he knows to stay away from the other pots !
